Information and Communication Technology Reflective Journal; Assignment Two.
Some classrooms nowadays, in comparison to when I was in primary school, have taken advantage of the apps that can be downloaded onto devices like the iPad. Games like mathletics, and even crosswords can help in enhancing the minds of young children. Due to the information being taught in an entertaining manner, allowing students to become engaged by a new and interesting learning tool, there is more chance of the child taking in the activity and understanding how things such as mathematics and grammar or punctuation work.

The development of "ICT" is a highly advanced tool that can ultimately be beneficial within the primary classroom in today's society. Although some individuals that may be described as "old-fashioned" tend to frown upon the uprise of computers and other devices, technology is now a part of the majority's everyday life. Whilst some technological devices can be used for entertainment purposes, such as instant messaging and using social media sites, they can also contribute to the development of a childs' intellectual ability.
Similarly, the use of technology within a classroom allows children to work independently. As every child is different, it is a given that within your classroom there will be a range of different learning levels and skills among the children. The apps or "games" that the children within the classroom can use can be set up to target their specific weak point in their intellectual ability, in order to strengthen their knowledge.

The use of ICT in the primary classroom is a broad topic, as understandably it has its weaknesses.
The youngest generation is continuously being harassed over social media, for being "lazy." Television programs such as "The Project" (Channel 10), often discuss the problems with computers and other devices allowing children to play games rather than learn. Whilst, as previously stated, these technological devices can be used for other activities, within the classroom it is vital that teachers observe the work of the children, ensuring that they are on task.
Likewise, it is important that teachers inform their students about how to be safe on the internet, and the right way to use such tools. Personally, I think that due to the way in which technology has advanced critically in today's society, it should be a part of every individuals education. For individuals within primary school, by the time they are old enough to pursue a career, it is more than likely going to be expected that they are technologically literate. It would be crazy for teachers to deny the children of the next generation of this opportunity that would ultimately allow them to get the best possible start to their lives.
